Frequently asked questions

›How is the VDA 6.3 overall result EG calculated?

Each question gets 10, 8, 6, 4 or 0 points. The result of a process element (EPn) is the mean of its question scores in percent, and the overall result EG is the mean of all rated questions. Questions that are not evaluated are left out.

›What do grades A, B and C mean?

A (EG ≥ 90 %) is quality capable, B (80 % to below 90 %) is conditionally quality capable and C (below 80 %) is not quality capable. Downgrade rules can lower the grade even when the EG is high.

›Which downgrade rules does this calculator apply?

From A to B when a process element is below 80 % or a starred question has 4 points. From A or B to C when a process element is below 70 % or any question has 0 points. Check the edition of VDA 6.3 your customer requires, the rules have changed between editions.

›Are these the official VDA 6.3 questions?

No. The checklist follows the process elements P2 to P7 with our own short questions. For an official audit, use the licensed VDA 6.3 questionnaire from the VDA QMC and enter its scores here, or edit the questions with “Edit checklist”.

›Do I have to audit all elements?

No. Potential analysis (P1) is separate, and P2 to P4 apply to product and process development. For a series production audit, P5 to P7 are usually enough. Mark the questions you did not audit as not evaluated (n.e.).
